We did that when I was learning about him in my elementary school classes. Not any more. No extra holiday for us on account of him and his great accomplishments. No, he has been a bit “demoted” from his star status to be celebrated along with all our other Presidents on “Presidents Day”. I know that it would be a bit much for us to celebrate all of our Presidents on their respective birth dates, but we need not do that. I would simply argue in favor of singling him out – along with George Washington, for his immense contributions to our country, such as ending slavery and preserving the union.
