ABRAHAM LINCOLN: LAST OF THE FOUNDING FATHERS “Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal. -- Abraham Lincoln On February 12 we will be celebrating the birth of our 16th President....or at least should be. We did that when I was learning about him in my elementary school classes. Not any more. No extra holiday for us on account of him and his great accomplishments. No, he has been a bit “demoted” from his star status to be celebrated along with all our other Presidents on “Presidents Day”. I know that it would be a bit much for us to celebrate all of our Presidents on their respective birth dates, but we need not do that. I would simply argue in favor of singling him out – along with George Washington, for his immense contributions to our country, such as ending slavery and preserving the union.
